Bio
I was born in the south of the Netherlands, in the city of Breda, in 1966. I took my first pictures with my brother’s camera at the age of 18. When I developed the film and saw the results, I immediately bought a camera of my own. In 1988, after the birth of my eldest son (who is now a marine in the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps) I moved to Amsterdam with my husband. There I studied history at the University of Amsterdam and gave birth to four more children in the coming years.
In 2001 I decided to start my own business in photography, and since then I’ve had a lot of exhibitions and publications with my three so far photoseries: In the forecourt, 2001-2004, Moonstruck/How to disappear completely, 2005, and Here are the young men, 2009-2010. In 2007 I made the children’s book ‘Girl of the Nightwatch’ in cooperation with famous Dutch artist Jan Wolkers. In 2009 I realised the big art project ‘Screenview’: 44 photographs fixed on the screens on the highway A10-West, Amsterdam.
As a child of four years old I was confronted with my mothers’ death. Since then I’m fascinated by life changing experiences and its effect on our daily lives.
On my website you can see a selection of these series, projects, exhibits and publications. If you want to see more, please send me an email.
Blog Prelude Afghanistan
Also on my website: my blog ‘Prelude Afghanistan’ for Dutch art magazine Mister Motley. This blog is about my newest photo project, for which I follow two Dutch military men before and into their deployment to Kunduz. In this blog I share my thoughts about the military and going to war, and tell little stories about the men and women of the ’43e Gemechaniseerde Brigade’ in Havelte, who are being sent to Kunduz. In February I will visit them there for two weeks. Looking forward to it!
Blog Afghanistan Daily
During my two weeks stay in Afghanistan (February 2 – 16), I will keeping a blog about my experiences: Afghanistan Daily. You can find it on this website.
Specific information about my work:
If you are interested in buying a print, please contact me, or my agent, by email. See the ‘Editions’ page for more information. I enjoy making photo’s of family’s and/or children. I do this only on location (this means: not in a studio) and the result is an outstanding, unique portrait which has nothing to do with an ordinary photo shoot next door. You can see examples of this work by sending me an email and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
All photographs are copyright Claire Felicie and may not be used without the permission of the photographer.
